Welcome to Maryland 1
The Blue Knights was started in 1974 by Ed Gallant, a police officer with the Bangor, Maine Police Department. Ed had an idea to form a motorcycle club for people in law enforcement. Together with seven or eight other cops, the idea became a reality. After a story about the club ran in the local paper the United Press International and Road Rider Magazine also ran a story. Shortly thereafter, inquiries from all over began to pour in. The first chapter outside Maine was in Brockton, MA. and the idea spread to Canada, where Moncton, N.B. became the first chapter outside the United States.

Maryland I was chartered in April 1976, thus becoming the first chapter formed in Maryland. The chapter was chartered in Bladensburg, Maryland and covers Anne Arundel Co, Prince Georges Co, Washington D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia. We currently have eighty five active members in our chapter. These members are from Police & Sheriff's Departments such as Anne Arundel Co Police , Prince Georges Co. Police & Sheriffs, Annapolis City Police Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police, Pentagon Police, We also have members from Federal Agencies such as, the Department of Defense, Secret Service, DHS, I.C.E., CBP and the FBI.

We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the Prince Georges Co Police, FOP Loge 89, in Largo Maryland at 7:30pm. Each year we have a events to raise money for local charities. We also participate in the annual Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ride on Mothers Day in Washington D.C
